Welcome to the Build Better Settings Challenge!

Haven’t ready the book yet? Grab your copy now so you know what we’re talking about 🙂

Challenge #1: Find a great example of setting that shows character arc

We love to hear about authors who are crushing it. If you come across a fantastic example of a story in which the author skillfully uses their settings to show character arc, let’s give that fellow writer a boost. Give the book and the author a shoutout on social media and be sure to hashtag your post with #BuildBetterSettings and #CreativeAcademyForWriters so we can find it easily, and follow/tag The Creative Academy for Writers so we get notified and can repost.

Challenge #2: Share your leveled up storytelling

If you’ve used the concepts you learned in Build Better Settings in your own work that is being published, let us know so we can give you a signal boost! Share a post on social media telling us how the book helped you level up your writing, hashtag your post with #BuildBetterSettings and #CreativeAcademyForWriters so we can share with our audience. Be sure to include the title / link of your book so people know where to find it!

Challenge #3: Share your version of Bailey’s story

We’ve shared with you the basic elements of Bailey’s story. If you’re not ready to share your own book, you can riff of what you read in the book and imagine how that setting (and the story in general of course) are impacted by genre. Write a description or scene featuring Bailey’s apartment, but reset the story in one of the following genres: mystery, fantasy, horror, sci-fi, historical, or genre of your choice. For example, in a fantasy story Bailey may have a house-dragon (we’ve always wanted one) that guards the door, versus a historical setting where she may have a moat. Let loose and have fun!

How do the things in her apartment appear different? How are they described? Share your story on your own blog/website or social media post and make sure you add the hashtag #BuildBetterSettings and #CreativeAcademyForWriters, and let us know either by tagging us on social or emailing a link to what you’ve shared to admin@creativeacademyforwriters.com
